Tournament

From CMC Wiki

Tournaments are competitive events of CMC, usually run by other players.

The tournaments themselves vary, from casual to serious, from generic to specific, to downright kooky (read: Shigatsunobaka). In other words, the format is entirely up to the one running the tournament. Some tournaments do get a Card Trophy, depending on conditions.

Tournament Styles

Tournaments can vary by format based on the one running the tournament.

Single Elimination

The most common of tournament styles, players are matched up one on one to play one round of best-of-three matches. The winner of two proceeds then to the next round, until there is left one winner.

Round-Robin

A group of players, which can vary in size, play each other a fixed number of games. The player(s) with the best record wins the tournament, or if there are more than one group, advances to the next round.

Some unique styles included a "total war" style, where two or more teams compete against each other for a shared prize (World Domination). Another style included using a map in which a player controls regions and may only attack adjacent opponents (Risk).

CMC Tournament History

The first tournament was run by Metroid Priam in September of 2003.

Some of the recurring tournaments include:

  • Fall Tournament: No-holds, with few ground rules established to maintain competitive fair play.
  • Shigatsunobaka: Rules are borderline idiotic, hence its name in Japanese, "April Fools."
  • Prism: Player teams of three, each designated a color of light, dark, and grey.
