Shigatsunobaka translates from Japanese to English as April Fool's Day or an April Fool, and it is the name given to CMC's April Fool's traditions, which include one of two annual tournaments run by the moderators (but usually not during April itself), and a scavenger hunt to locate the letters required to redeem a special April Fool's voucher set. It is often simply shortened to Shigatsu.

| Vouchers | First Avrillian x1, Shigatsu Ninja x1, Tsuitachi Ninja x1 | (Closed) |
On April Fool's Day, HailSpork announced a round robin style tournament named Shigatsunobaka. Its set of strange and confusing rules contrasted with those of previous tournaments, and it had Shigatsu Ninja and Tsuitachi Ninja announced as its prize cards. It was announced the day after that the tournament was actually going to happen, despite originally being a joke. HailSpork then ran the tournament, commencing in May. Jushousha Ninja was the first prize, which went to Hatrus.
The first April Fool's scavenger hunt was organised by Shuryou Gospel. Hidden within the tournament's rules in its newspost was the beginning of the hunt, which eventually lead to a full voucher code to redeem a Shigatsu Ninja, Tsuitachi Ninja and First Avrillian.

| Vouchers | Prankster Tanuki x1, Wild Goose Ninja x1, Tsuitachi Ninja (Joke) x1 | (Closed) |
On April Fool's Day, the second April Fool's scavenger hunt was announced in this forum post by Shuryou Gospel. The original plans involved the at the time unreleased Legendary Hero voucher being released as the April Fool's voucher card, but this was never finalised. Shuryou Gospel went ahead with his plans however, and posted the scavenger hunt which would turn out to be fake. Due to its nature as a forum scavenger hunt, many players used the search function to locate the clues, which slowed down the forums for everyone, making the hunt that much more difficult. By coincidence, the main CMC server was down on that and the following few days, making it impossible to tell that the voucher code was fake.
An April Fool's voucher set which included Prankster Tanuki, Wild Goose Ninja and a second version of Tsuitachi Ninja was released later; conventionally hidden, separate from the scavenger hunt.
Later in the month, the second tournament, named Shigatsu 2: Revenge of the Baka, began signups. A lot more thought had been put into the rules for this year's tournament; the rules from then onwards would be a lot fairer, while still maintaining the same level of craziness. HailSpork then ran the tournament, commencing in May. Renzokutai Ninja was the first prize, which went to Whomper.
2006
| Tournament | Shigatsu 3: Color Coded | |

| Vouchers | Curry Golem x1, River Kappa x1, Fire Kitsune x1 | Forum Scavenger Hunt |
In February, HailSpork started a thread requesting submissions for rules ideas for the upcoming Shigatsu 3: Bakas Untie tournament. This was to be a team-based tournament, where players progressed by earning points. HailSpork then ran the tournament, commencing in April. After a few weeks and only a few games played, the tournament was unofficially declared dead, though official word didn't come until much later.
In June, Shuryou Gospel decided to organise a replacement for the now dead Bakas Untie. He held a competition to decide on the set of tournament rules to use, which Vincent won, leading to the creation of Shigatsu 3: Color Coded. Shuryou Gospel then ran the tournament, commencing in August. Ninja no Niji was the first prize, which went to masamunemaniac.

On the first day of May, Shuryou Gospel began signups for Shigatsu 2 + 2 = 5? tournament. This was to be a team-based tournament, where players paired up and played the corresponding members of the opposing team, sharing rule invalidations between them. At the end of the month the tournament commenced, but as with the previous year's tournament, it shortly died with few games played.
In September, masamunemaniac decided to organise a replacement for the now dead Shigatsu 2 + 2 = 5? tournament. As the Fall tournament was approaching, signups and deadlines were kept tight, and rules were made with an emphasis more on odd deckmaking than odd playing. A week after signups started, Shigatsu 4.5: Sudden Death!? commenced. Ninja Monument was the first prize, which went to Vincent.

On the first day of April, Whomper began signups for the Shigatsu 555: Kui! tournament. Breaking the trend of the past two years' tournaments, this one ran to completion, in a timely manner, and without hitch. Godai Ninja was the first prize, which went to bubbleman.

On April Fool's Day, E-mouse announced that in an unprecedented incident, Shigatsunobaka was cancelled this year (of course, few people were fooled). After the moderators sorted out their technical difficulties, Ultros and masamunemaniac posted their scavenger hunts, continuing the ruse and claiming that they were just for fun (again, few people were fooled).
What did confuse some however was that the joke ability-less version of Tsuitachi Ninja was replaced with Dishonored Ninja, and Last Avrillian was replaced with Ninja Borrower; the former being retired due to being completely and deliberately useless, the latter being retired due to being identical to First Avrillian. This led to some players having copies of the latest voucher cards even before solving this year's scavenger hunts.
Half way through April, Whomper began signups for the Shigatsu 6: No Foolin'! tournament. Starting a trend (because something happening twice in a row is a trend), this tournament also ran to completion, in a timely manner, and without hitch. Jirai no Ninja was the first prize, which went to Serith.
