Second Life
From CMC Wiki
| Status Icon: |
Second Life is an ability that allows the entity with this ability to be returned to its controller's hand when destroyed or sacrificed rather than sent to the graveyard. If it is given as a status effect, it is denoted by an icon of an angel's wings and halo in the upper-left corner of the cardart.
However, you must meet certain prerequisites at the time of destruction for the card to return.
First, there must be room in your hand. If your hand is full, the ability is not activated and the card goes to the graveyard.
Second, you must meet any requirements on the card, and be able to pay the Second Life cost. The Second Life cost is specified within its brackets. This cost is subtracted from your mana pool once the card is successfully returned to your hand. For example, Shadehawk (Prime) has (Second Life:
4), meaning you need 4 Grey mana in addition to a free spot in your hand to have Second Life activate. If you meet the requirements, this will be done automatically, and is not voluntary. Note that the Second Life of Skeletal Soldier works even if you have under 15 health.
As token entities cannot be returned to hand, the likes of token Shadehawk created by Wrench effectively lose their Second Life.
