Sacrifice
From CMC Wiki
To Sacrifice (often shortened to sac) your monsters or effects is to destroy them during your Sacrifice Phase in order to gain mana. The amount of mana gained is equal to the mana totals shown on the line below the card's cost, and is called the sacrifice value or sac value.
Destroying your own monsters and effects in this way can achieve a number of things. Primarily, it can recoup the mana cost of the card in order to play other cards. As each player is limited to 5 monster and effect slots, sacrificing is often done to free up used slots for more powerful cards. Sacrificing monsters once they reach low life, or effects once their counter is depleted can help you get the most out of your mana when you have a shortfall. Some cards, such as the sources, were designed with sacrificing in mind, and have sac values far higher than their cost.
Note that sacrificing will trigger abilities that activate when a card is destroyed, such as those with Second Life, and Lifetimer.
The Can't be sacrificed status effect, as the name may suggest, prevents the card from being sacrificed.
