Monster

From CMC Wiki

Monsters are the most basic group of cards in Cardmaster Conflict. They are played on the outer rows of the field and usually stay in play until they are destroyed. Generally, they are destroyed and sent to the graveyard when they recieve enough damage to bring their life to 0.

The term 'monster' and 'creature' are used in CMC synonymously; 'Monster' is the official terminology, while 'Creature' is a term borrowed from other CCGs.

Monster Types

All monsters have one or more Monster Types. These types appear directly under the picture after the word "Call". Some cards can even add additional monster types to a monster.

Many cards provide synergy between monsters of the same type, such as Slime Champion. In addition, some cards require a specific monster type to be present to be played (Heroic Strike).

Attacking and Defending

Most monsters can attack your opponent and his/her monsters. Attacking the opponent with a monster (called a Direct Attack) is the most basic way of dealing damage to the opponent. In turn, most monsters can also defend against direct attacks.

There are various exceptions to this rule. Certain monsters Can't Attack. These include those of the monster type Wall, and monsters such as NPC (War-Vendor). Monsters with Invisible Attack can only be blocked by those with Invisible Attack. Monsters with Sneaking cannot be blocked by those of that color. However, monsters with more than one color (Bicolor, or Tricolor) can block as long as one of its subcolors is not affected by Sneaking.

When two monsters face each other in combat, whether defending against another or being attacked, they usually take damage equal to the other monster's attack. If the monster defending against a direct attack is destroyed because of this, half the damage above what was needed to destroy the monster is dealt to the defending player. However, if the monster was specifically attacking a monster, no damage will go through to the defending player even if the defending monster was destroyed. Some abilities cause notable exceptions to this rule, such as DLG Damage and the passive ability Lifebar.

Creating Monsters

Monsters usually are summoned from your hand; however, some spells, effects, locations, and even the abilities of other monsters can also create monsters.

Monsters created by such methods are generally given the token status, and many of these do not appear otherwise (such as Gloops).

Monster Destruction

There are various ways to remove monsters. Most monsters are destroyed and sent to the graveryard when damage from combat or otherwise causes it's life to be reduced to 0 or below. Spells and abilities that can destroy/obliterate a monster, such as End Disk Two and Nate/George, are called monster destruction.

The ability Second Life allows a monster to be sent to the controller's hand upon destruction rather than sent to the graveyard if the requirements are met. However, monsters with the token status ignore most death triggers such as Second Life and are simply removed from the field when destroyed.
