Graveyard

Graveyard is the area of the board for which cards go once used or destroyed. The number of cards in the graveyard can be seen in the player status box next to the symbol of the gravestone. The actual cards can be seen by clicking the gravestone tab on the upper left side of the display. This is also where you go if you wish to target a card in the graveyard.

Cards are sent to the graveyard in four ways:

  • When they are discarded from the hand.
  • When it is destroyed (if it is an entity).
  • After they are cast (if it is a spell).
  • If the entity a modifier is attached to leaves play by any means (the modifier returns to the original owner's graveyard).
  • When the location changes (if the previous location was played by either player, it returns to their graveyard).

However, there are various exceptions to this rule. Entities with the token status or cards that are obliterated do not go to the graveyard. Some cards such as Khrima (War-Final Boss) follow different orders once destroyed. Also, non-token monsters with Second Life return to their owner's hand once destroyed, unless the owner's hand is full, in which it does go to the graveyard.

Some cards are able to return cards in the graveyard to a player's hand or directly into play (i.e. Rebuild), and other use the graveyard's size in their calculations (i.e. Skeletal Chimera).
