Card Details

• The word Avrillian is derived from Avril, which translates from French to English as April. This is in reference it being an April Fool's card.
• Looks can be deceiving, and an inexperienced player would think this card has immediate utility. However, First Avrillian has the misfortune of having the hidden abilites: Fleeting, Spell Shield, and Ability Shield.
• First Avrillian can be cheaply brought from the graveyard into play with Miracle or Life or Death to sacrifice for 8. Its hidden Fleeting also makes it very easy to get into the graveyard.
• Abilities and spells that do not target are still effective against First Avrillian. For example, one can use Selection Committee to possibly undizzy it. Dramatic Entrance and Plateau of Shades can also be used for a guaranteed undizzy. Energizing Glow also works, since it does not target.
• There used to be a card named Last Avrillian that was functionally identical to this, but it was eventually replaced with Ninja Borrower.
• That nasty-looking alien is an Avrillian Fiend.
